Finance Minister, Samuel D. Tweah, has underscored the importance of implementing the Axel Road project funded by EU. Minister Tweah made the observation when the EU turned over Four Double Cabin Pickups and Three Weights in Motion Scales to the Ministry of Transport in Monrovia.

 “The acquisition of the equipment will contribute to the development of a politically and economically realistic regional strategy for improving the sectoral governance of road transport”, Minister Tweah said the initiative would help ECOWAS, the west Africa Economic and Monitoring union while also promoting the harmonization and synchronization of National Policies.

According to the Finance Minister, “the Axel Load Project will contribute towards the sustainability of road investment,” in the region.

 Tweah observed the move will put what he called a “stop to overloading and improve the governance of road maintenance thereby reducing the rate at which the regional corridors deteriorate”.

The turning over ceremony of the equipment was graced by the head of EU Delegation and other Dignitaries.

  Ambassador Delahousse said, the EU support is to ensure a safe and more sustainable road transport, boost Economic activities and Job creation in West Africa. “The objective of the equipment handover ceremony was to ensure that project information is communicated to all projects Partners, Stakeholders and target groups accurately, transparently and in due time”, EU envoy said.

The visibility of EU funding for Liberia under the European Development Fund and project activities of the Axel Load control unit will reach only to the target groups using perceptible, clear, easy to understand and visually attractive communication.

In a related development, Liberia’s Deputy Transport Minister, Darius kollie said, the vehicles and equipment will enhance the usage of the Axel load control of heavy vehicles. This he said will facilitate the collection of data on current loading habits on the regional asphalt roads”.

The Vehicles and Equipment will be utilized by the Axel load control project unit of the Ministry of Transport to enhance the implementation of Liberia’s Axel Load Law on the impact of overloading.
