Coronavirus Global Response: EU Mobilizes €84 Million for four African Countries. Liberia Gets Euros 8.7 million!!!!

A 50.5 Million USD EU grant to electrify impoverished communities in Monrovia and its environs is indeed progressing!!

The project code name “Light up Monrovia (LUM”) will electrify 38,000 new homes in identified areas. In addition to the 38,000 homes to be electrified in Monrovia, 2,100 street lights will also be installed simultaneously.

The Peace Island Community is one of the targeted impoverished areas to benefit from the EU gesture during the first phase of the project implementation, a release from the organizers said. Consistent with the EU’s plan of action, Peace Island will get its power source from the Paynesville Substation and the just constructed Congo town Sub station near the James Spriggs Payne Airport in Monrovia, the release said.

Apart from the peace Island Community, the first phase of LUM is expected to also benefit Central Monrovia, Capitol Hill, Jallah town, Saye town, old and new Matadi, Lakpazee and Wrotto town among others. Additional areas expected to benefit are Old road, Key hole Chugbor, Gaye town, ACS Communities, Nigerian house as well as Congo town back road. The LUM project includes; installation of several materials to facilitate Power connection and distribution, the availability of Meters Transformers, wooden and concrete Poles as well as wires to connect households to the electrical grid.
